Waffles for Lunch

Howdy Howdy Howdy. The lady here (Tracy, that is).

So the cat is out of the bag. The baby, however, is not (maybe in a few years…). Stay tuned.

We are moving to Brussels!!! We are definitely (obviously) in the beginning stages of pulling the details of this move together, even though it feels like we have been planning it for years!

A some point in middle school (when I was learning to pluck my eyebrows, going to bassoon private lessons twice a week, and about 1 foot taller than all the boys), I learned what “study abroad” is. Keep in mind, this is about the same time Alex and I ever laid eyes on each other. Anyway, ever since then, my mind had been totally wrapped around the idea of living in a foreign country, learning a new language, eating yummy food, and experiencing a new culture. I remember one late night on the phone with Alex our freshman year of college when we were long distance shopping online and planning for our first backpacking trip for that following summer. A vicious side effect of the ramen noodle budget, we were unable to take the trip. We were really only dreaming but we knew eventually it would all come together.

I spent the summer of 2006 in South Africa and had an amazing experience but it wasn’t enough. That was really only a confirmation that I had been bitten by the travel bug. My So-Af trip was actually when I initially became interested in teaching the English language. So, in a way, I knew it was only the beginning of the journey. Over the course of getting my Masters degree, the dream continued to take shape as I got more and more passionate about teaching ESOL overseas.

With that in mind, I have been doing lots of job hunting for an opportunity to teach in Belgium.  I have a connection at one of the international schools there that I am whole-heartedly pursuing, among other options. I would love to continue teaching high school level ESOL but between my kindergarten internship and stint with teaching English to the Real Latina Housewives of Wilmington, I feel equipped to step through any door that is open to me.

My real motivation? Waffles for lunch.
